The Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, investigates the attentional, cognitive, and affective mechanisms of aesthetic perception and evaluation.

 

The Institute invites applications for two

 

Student Assistant Positions (Studentische Hilfskraft)

for 40 hours a month each

 

to work under the supervision of Dr. Alessandro Tavano on a project that uses behavioral and neuroimaging techniques (EEG, MEG) to investigate how the human brain processes linguistic hierarchy. This position is an opportunity for the assistant to gain hands-on experience conducting neuroscientific research in a stimulating interdisciplinary environment. We are therefore seeking highly interested and self-motivated individuals to assist with the project.

 

Your responsibilities:

  • create stimuli for experiments;
  • assist with data collection (e.g., for behavioral experiments as well as EEG, MEG, etc.);
  • recruit research study participants (e.g., contacting potential participants, etc.);
  • conduct data entry and assist with analysis;
  • write literature reviews and summaries;
  • organize scientific literature.

The contract is initially limited to one semester (6 months), with the possibility of extension. The start date will be July 1, 2022.

Anforderungen

  • a solid training in linguistics;
  • an interest in linguistics and neuroscience and a motivation to learn;
  • a native level German speaker but fluent in English (primary language of the project), and ideally a native level speaker of a further language;
  • current enrollment as an MSc student, preferably in linguistics, neuroscience, psychology, engineering, computer science, or related field (exceptionally well-qualified Bachelor students may also be considered);
  • some experience with (or exposure to) speech analysis and coding, e.g., Praat, Python, MATLAB, R, or other languages;
  • strong organizational and communication skills, capacity to work well as part of a team;
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, etc.
